I have always loved to cook and bake. I learned how to follow a recipe from my wonderful mother, who passed away five years ago from breast cancer. Growing up I was always in the kitchen. I love to try new recipes, some work, some do not. My family is very used to trying out new things. They are also very honest in telling me whether the recipe is a keeper or toss back. I kept posting pictures of what I made on my families blog and decided to give my creations there own place. I am not a professional by any means. Baking/cooking is just something I really enjoy doing.

Christmas cupcakes

I made these cupcakes to give to co- workers. They are both a chocolate cupcake, one is dipped in chocolate ganache with a mint christmas tree. the other is topped with peppermint buttercream. It was fun to try dipping the cupcakes in ganache, I have never tried it before, but have to say it turned out good.

Lady bug cupcakes

I made these for my friends little girls birthday. I tried dipping them in melted fondant, but it did no turn out very good, so I covered the cupcakes with a fondant flower. I think they looked cute, but the dipped fondant under the flower made it a very heavy cupcake.

First try at carved cake.

This was my very first attement at doing a carved cake. It is a subaru cake. I wish I could do it over, I know that I could do a way better job the second time around, when I actually know what I a doing. I can see every flaw and believe me there are many.

Fondant and gum paste final cake

This is the cake I did on the final day of my fondant and gum paste class. I wanted to do something with the fall theme and this is what I came up with. I took it to work to share with my co workers and they loved it. I am quite happy with the way it turned out, but already know a few things I would do different next time.

Young Womens in Excellence

I love cake decorating and want to someday teach cake decorating. I also have a goal to get good enough to do wedding cakes for Nieces and Nephews and possibly make some money on the side doing an occasional event. This week our church had a program called young women in excellence, young women in our group were getting highlighted for there faith and good works ect. The young ladies in our church group have a list of 8 core values each has a color assigned to it. Example is integrity-purple, faith-white. I need ways to practice my cake decorating, so I volunteered to make all the desserts for this event. I made cupcakes representing each of the value colors. I made a total of 68 cupcakes. 8 per color plus 4 left over. This is the final display and individual pictures.

Chocolate cupcake with white butter cream and a buttercream rose

Lemon Poppy seed with orange zest buttercream and a Callie Lilly. This is the flower I learned how to make this past Tuesday in the gumpaste/fondant class I am taking.

White cupcake with chocolate buttercream topped with a primrose made of royal icing

Lemon poppy seed cupcake, lime zest buttercream, tipped off with peeled lime

Lemon poppy seed cupcake, lemon icing, sprinkled with shimmery white specks.

White cupcake, buttercream icing, red apple blossoms.
My island in the kitchen covered with cupcakes. It took about 8 eight hours of time to construct and bake all the cupcakes and when I was finished I was like a giddy child. I was so excited and proud of my work. I can defiantly see improvement.

Halloween Cake

Hobby Lobby was offering a tiered cake class the day before Halloween, I jumped at the chance to learn a few more skills. Instead of some fancy cake I decided to go with a Halloween cake. Next month Hobby Lobby is offering a fondant/gumpaste class, I am excited to learn how to do fondant, since I have already tried two cakes on my own. Hopefully with tons of practice one day I will be a awesome cake decorater. I love creating stuff with food. Thats why I have to spend so much time working out.

I had to bring a treat to a scout court of honor and decided to make these cool monster cupcakes, because Halloween is just days away. They were a hit. I used a devils food cupcake recipe from the Martha Stewart Website. The reciepe turned out great! The cupcakes were lite and fluffy and rose perfectly. Thank you Martha Stewart, you rock!!

Oreo Truffles

I made these for a brunch I had on Wednesday. I got the reciepe from a friend in my church group. They were a hit. I am going to make more on Sunday to give to neighboors. Thanks Brittany for the recipe.
.........................................
All it takes is one bag oreo's double stuffed, one 80z package of cream cheese and dipping chocolate. To make: Crush the oreos, mix with cream cheese, chill, roll into balls, chill again and dip and you are done. Quick easy and yummy.

I had a pizza theme brunch at my house this week and the pizza turned out great, but I think pizza is not picture worthy, so here are the desserts I made. These are carrot cake cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. For the the tops I made leaves out of buttersotch and milk chocolate chips.
This is a picture of a cupcake display with two types of cupcakes, the peanut butter/chocolate and carrot cake with cream cheese pictured above. My son took these pictures and also set up the display, he is eight and loves helping out-- sometimes.

Frightening Fingers

I found the recipe for these yummy frightening fingers in a Taste of Home magazine a few years ago. It has become a family tradition for me to make them every year.

This is a daisy cake I made for my nieces Birthday. I will have to say that it took quite a long time to make all the flowers. I was pretty happy with the way it turned out, it being my first fondant cake.

Chocolate peanut butter cupcakes

A chocolate cupcake, topped with creamy peanut butter frosting, toffee as a garnish, with chocolate sprinkled on the top. This is a recipe I got off the food network. It was made for the show Cupcake Wars.

Popcorn Cupcakes

These are cupcakes I made for our church children's carnival. To make, cook regular cupcakes and put a layer of frosting on them(frost just before decorating or marshmallow's will not stick). Cut mini marshmallow tops with four cross snips using sissors . Place marshmallows on top of frosting. Using Wilton color mist, spray on some yellow coloring. Place cupcake in pre-made wrap and there you have it. A cute and easy way to make a boring cupcake cute.

I also made the cover for these, using a store bought wrap as a pattern. Then I printed the popcorn word strip on the computer and glued them on the wraps.

Basket Weave

This is the Cake I did for my Wilton Cakes and Flowers Design class. I did not have any idea what to write on it, so I just left it blank. Just pretend it says Happy Birthday or Congratulations or something like that. The next picture is of the basket weave technique I also learned in class.

Just more practice. I made the butterflies out of royal icing. If I did these again I would add little antennae.

Saturday, June 5, 2010

I was in charge of bringing a treat to my sons baseball team party. I just could not bring myself to do some boring store bought treat. I thought and thought until I came up with this idea on my own. I used royal icing to make the bat and ball, the blue frosting is just a plain buttercream. The boys thought they were the bomb.

Hot off the grill (pre-cake decorating class)

I made these for a church BBQ. These were made before I had any cake decorating classes, but I still think they were cute. Anyone want some hamburgers, hot dogs or chicken? It is hot off the grill.

Strawberries + Chocolate = Love

Chocolate covered strawberries in a cup made of chocolate cookie. Everything is edible except for the stems, but I guess you can eat those too if you want.
